Water Quality For Misting

I'm considering purchasing at least one Rhacodactylus, but I'm still in the information-gathering phase (which I know never ends). I live in southern Arizona and the water here is high in calcium and magnesium which ultimately lead to the death of my green iguana from kidney stones. Is this something to consider for misting the enclosure? Should I only mist with distilled water?

Thanks,

Tom

I think because it ultimately lead to the death of your iguana distilled water would be best because rhacodactylus drink the droplets from the mistings, might i ask what kind of rhacodactylus?

I tend to agree--my iguana lived for 12 years and grew to 4 feet, but she certainly could have lived longer. By providing only distilled water would I be omitting any essential minerals? In any case I'm still looking--right now I'm leaning towards R. ciliatus but maybe R. leachianus eventually.

Distilled water i think is all around better because it takes out the chlorine and chloramines but it does take out some minerals which could be a problem, so what i used to do was keep a bowl of tap water in there and also spray with distilled it worked fine for me although you live in Arizona with the high concentrations of calcium and magnesium there are things you can buy at be stores to put in the water to either treat it or to add minerals maybe you should check that out in your case hope this helps.

Thanks, Nathan.

Another benefit of distilled water is that it wouldn't leave deposits on the leaves and glass as the water evaporates after misting.
