Klemmeri pair or Cepediana Female? ...and Guimbeaui's

Hi guys. I have the oppurtunity to get a cepediana female or a klemmeri pair. I am stuck on which to get as from what i read, cepediana females are very very fragile, and klems are relativly simple to keep and very rewarding. What makes female cepediana's so hard to keep. I was told they are very temperamental about mineral intake and die very easily from wrong mineral intake. They would be under uv lighting in an exo terra viv. Which one would you guys go for? Does anyone have a picture of a cb cepediana female? Also, going off on a tangent, Guimbeaui's are my faveourite phelsuma species. Are they any simpler to keep than cepediana's? Cheers,

My experience with cepediana females is they are so shy and skittish that they require a lot of privacy. Female cepediana are smaller than the males which really put them into the category of "small sized Phelsuma". To me this means their nutrition is more critical -- good gut loading of crickets and supplemented baby food is very important.

Given plenty of privacy and good nutrition, they usually do well in captivity.

I keep my cepediana without UV lighting. Instead I provide extra vitamin D3 and calcium.

As for hydration, I use reverse osmosis water. They do well on it.

Regretfully I don't have any recent photos of my female cepediana: it freaks them out to be photographed (one must be sneaky to get a shot).

Guimbeaui, although also a bit skittish, tend to be a bit more resilient than cepediana.

Thank you very much for your reply. I think the klems would be better suited for me then as they seem easier to keep, and more freindly. I'll try to get some guimbeaui's in the future, as they are my all time favourite lizard :biggrin:. Thank you for your help,

I love my p.klemmeri, and feel that they are pretty hardy and easy to keep as far as phelsuma go. They make great display geckos as they seldom hide even when I walk right up to their enclosure. They're equally happy taking feeders or CGD; and are quite active. Aggression between cohabitants is very rare and not a big cause for concern like in many other phelsuma.

Klems are great. They are fun to watch, especially in pairs. Each of mine has its own litle personality: one likes to be misted directly and the other only likes drips from the mist. Each has its own preferred hiding place in the viv and they are curious little buggers. Very hardy in my opinion. They do very well on well-gutloaded and dusted crickets and fruit flies. I supplement 3x/week with Repashy MRP in various flavors.

I think i am going to try to locate a female guimbeaui, and maybe get a pair of klems at a later date. Guimbeaui are my all time favourite lizard, so would love to get a female. I am not too bothered if i cant find a male.
