pietschmanni loan egg eaten by crickets:(

just found 1 loan egg,well the remains of one anyway,it had been layed on a peice of corkbark i just put in,in plain site,wasnt there last nite but i didnt check thismorning,just got in from work and found it,

i dont think it was fertile because it had been stuck to the bark but what was left of the shell had a nice white colour and the inside was like a gooey yellow?i tried to remove wht was left

theres no sign of a second egg,does anyone think she might still be carrying 1 or deposited the other somewhere else,i dont wanna disturb them but if theres a fertile egg in there somewhere i NEED to find it,
she has a pile of dead leaves in 1 corner,i read on a care sheet that they would almost certainly deposit any good eggs on the ground in leaf litter,

does anyone have any personal oppinions or experienced duds deposited above ground from corkies?

Hello there,

I definetely think, you have an infertile eggs there and it is very common for the first egg to be a solo egg and infertile with a lot of gecko species. A nice thing to know, is that she is ovulating and that with a little luck some fertile eggs will be coming in 4 to 5 weeks. I wouldn´t try hurrying in finding the other egg as it is most likely not there.

how are your uroplatus?thanks for the reply,thats what i thought but it had a real white shell,not like most duds,anyway like you say its good to know,
it just made my heart drop when i saw crickets eating the remains,

100% agree with Jody. Concentrate your efforts on making sure the female is healthy and keeping an eye out about a month down the road.

just found a second egg,this time on the ground,although it was just below where she was perched earlier this evening,right in the middle of the tank,not in the leaves,it also was white and had substrate stuck to it,round but not solid,again the thing that threw me was the white colour,i got there before the crickets but when i picked it up expecting it to be calcified it just dropped out of my hand,not far but i lost track of the top spot,what a muppet:!:

wasnt realy ready for it,i had just given the tank th eonce over and not seen it and added some dusted crix,then i panicked a bit,
please say i just drpped a dud,a white dud?,ive only ever had yellowy duds,
i wonna go with my instinct and say it was but considering the species i feel like a complete ameture right now,thing is i usually have tray readyfor the eggs before touching them, i never just pick them up to look,disapointed at myself right now

infertile eggs are white on the outside, yellow on the inside. If it was soft, it was infertile.

thanks,lesson learnt anyway,i will be unlra careful if i get any more eggs,
i put in a load of dusted crix and as she has layed now ill probably dust the food every batch for a while,just to make sure shes got plenty of calcium on board,
has anyone had any success feeding necter/fruit/cgd to this species
my lineatus will sometimes take a bit of fruit or cgd,i even heard of people usng yogurt and honey for silkorae that was refusing livefood,not that any of my uroplatus arnt eating livefood,but id like to see if and what they would eat fruitwise,
