Leo Care question

Hello,

I have been debating getting a new lizard and have done a lot of research so far. I was just wondering what peoples opinion are on the ease of care for a leopard gecko. Mainly compared to that of a crested gecko. I have it narrowed down to one of the two and was looking for some peoples personal preferences.

Any input would be very appreciated.

Both are fairly easy to care for, but perhaps the crestie more so than the leo. The biggest differences are these:

Crested gecko:
- Can live off a powdered formula, and not insects.
- Lives best at typical room-temperature (so no added heating).
- Need to be misted daily several times, so keep humidity high and so they can drink.

Leopard Gecko:
- Requires prey that moves to get it's attention, so live insects.
- Requires under-tank heat, like a heating pad.
- Need to provide a moist hide, which might need misting a couple times a week.

The best thing to do is to get a book about each and read though the care. That's the best way to decide what pet is best for you. I have both and each is easy for different reasons. The leos don't need to be misted, so I might not have to do much to them most nights. But cresties don't need any additional heating or live insects, which is nice. I think those are the biggest differences, but it's not like either one is a big chore to take care of. Bottom line, if you don't like insects then a crestie is the gecko for you :) That would be my biggest selling point.

Than you very much for the informed details on the pros and cons. Seems to be what everyone is saying heh.

But seriously thanks. I would say I am going to end up with a leo mainly because I have the basking lights and UTH now with my (cordylus family) and where I live cresties are hard to come by and are VERY pricy.

Both are great lizards :) and they're both extremely cute, so diciding which one to get might just come down to which you like more and what you can afford, since their "easiness" is not that different.

Good luck with your leopard gecko!

Good luck with whatever you choose. Just a note: you don't really need basking lights with leos since they're nocturnal and will probably spend the day in their hides.

Oh I know I do not need the basking lamp I just have one now because my current herps need one. Thanks for the concern though.
