got my new phants:)3.3 of em!all stunners too
ok as some of u may have read i lost my female pietschmanni on the weekend so have been feeling realy bad,but last night at about 3oclock in the morning my friend rang to say he was back from europe,
he had gone on from hamm to pick up some mouse lemurs from austria(he is a animal lecturer)so i went in the middle of the night to go get em,
the mouse lemurs wre unbeleivably cool like little gizmos!but i was more worried about getting the phants home,no pics yet but they seem ok so far,one of the females is without a tail and in shed,so ive just got my fingers crossed for that 1,
anyway after loosing the female corkie getting these has been a boost to my morale,
ill get some pics up as soon as i get a chance,:)

these 2 both seem to have a problem with thier mouths, the one with the blotches seems to have some sort of infection:(its swollen, not sure if u can see in the pics, the other one head on,has something on the very tip of the mouth, top and bottom jaw, looks like its on the heal, but still a little worried about them,
anyone got any suggestions that will disinfect without effecting the health of the geckos?as its on the mouth,i obviously dont want them to lick off anything that will be bad for them,

Nice looking geckos :)
If you're worried about them, I'd get them separated from the rest of the group if you haven't already done so. You can use a iodine solution on a cotton bud to disinfect the area. If you make sure it's pretty dilute it won't harm the geckos.
Personally I would have them all in individual quarantine enclosures until I can guarantee they're all completely healthy.

wonderfull geckos you got there.

Regarding the two individuals, i would do as Graham, mentions above. Seperate them, set them up in ex. small faunabox, with minimal decor and keep them clean.
Then you should see which ones are doing fine and wich ones you should keep and extra eye out for.

may I ask what kind og encluser you use, and how you have set it up? It looks really nice, from what I can see with the branches and ficus tree's.

yeah i think i will have to sperate them,
will a small set up not cause them stress?
today i dabbed a little pure calcium mixed with a small amount of cgd on each of thir noses,
i only noticed it when i took the pics,i got them home very late and i just wanted them to feel secure when i got them home, they had a long journey and i didnt just want to bung them in a tiny set up,they had all been living together at the previouse owners, some cb and some ltc,so i put them in a another phant set up that i had a cb pair in,which are now in pretty much the same set up(differnt viv)i have already seperated 2 of the females,as they are too small and one has no tail, again this happened at the previouse owners,so far she has shed and looks relatively active and healthy, only time will tell,
the set up is a exo terra 60/45/60,i have another one that the other pair are in,eventualy i plan to have 3.2 and 2.2,and obviously im still on the look out for more femalesthen maybe even get a third group if all goes well, the tanks are still relatively simple, just a ficus, twigs, cork and a fake plant in each, once i know all is well i will probably do new backgrounds and put moss on the bottom as well as adding more plants and some springtails,
i will try watered doen iodine,as i say im pretty sure the female is an old wound on the mend, she as the rest all seem pretty healthy/acive/nice size, the male however is little more worrying as there seems to be some swelling, maybe came in contact with fecaes on his long journey,
hope he makes it,hes realy stunning, has a great tail with loads of notches, apart from the mouth he looks in good shape, one of the biggest,
fingers crossed

It depands on how small your phants are and the enclouser you will keep them in. I have a small phant 5-6 months old, and he is in a small faunaboks, with some small twigs and some fake leaf's. no problem so far.

i would fine some enclousers/boxes that is the right size, and get alle the animals on track, and then after a few weeks/months And I know wich one are doing great, and if there is some that dont. then i would perhaps setup some groups.

Im still fairly new in uro's, but Graham is very experianced and im sure he can tell you alot better ideas and ways to do so.

I hope everything turnsout allright for your phant's.

it depends how small a set-up you put them into. Having one in a 12x12x18 exo terra would be fine. It'd be best to have them all separate anyway as it's not breeding season any more and you can see that they're all feeding after their long journey.

EDIT:
As Robbe says, the size of enclosure would depend on the size of the animals. Can you give us an estimate of their total length?

yeah im gonna get some temporary vivs set up for these 2,
apart from the 2 females that are a little small and already in serperate enclosures, they are all a good size,
as i say they have all been together over a year at the last place, apart from thes 2 thay are all in good shape,i trust the guy who i got them from,no mites and he assure me their fecals all show normal fauna matter etc, just a little gets lost in translation wen we speak,he probably mentioned about the female, the males maybe a fresh infection from licking his own poo or something,
anyway i will go out and get a few more ficus plants and leave them in the pot in the ir temp set ups,
i havent got any iodine, where will i get it?still a little unsure whether i wanna use chems with ethese fragile little creatures, although as i say they both seem pretty healthy in size, active etc

The iodine is just to sterilise the wound/infection and to stop it getting worse. The iodine I have at the moment is one I just got from an ordinary chemist. It says "Iodine Tincure" on the label. I dip a cotton bud in the iodine in the bottle and use a bottle cap of water to dilute it well. It may not taste too nice to the gecko, but provided you dilute it, it won't do them any harm. Even though you've been assured that the geckos are parasite and illness free, it would be best to see for yourself. There may have been something that went unnoticed by them.

they have now been swabbed with the iodine/water mix, thanks graham, they now have a small set up each with a ficus, just got my fingers crossed, the female as i say is not worrying me as much as the male, hopefully the iodine will stop the swelling and kill any infection,
i will repeat in a few days,
any other tips guys, anyone had anything similar?

Except for any re-applications of the iodine solution, I would leave them to it, and keep an eye on problem and see if it begins to go down. Remember that they are very sensitive to stress and they've recently had a long journey. I'd keep them on paper towel to make sure they're eating well (especially as it is a problem with their mouth, they may not be feeding) and to keep an eye out for any other problems that may present themseleves in the fecal matter.

The only problem similar to this that I've had with Uroplatus is the classic nose-rub wound on a U.henkeli. I applied the iodine solution twice I think, and it healed up very quickly.

Just out of interest, how old are these geckos? Are they old breeding stock?

some were aquired as wc eary 08,the 2 smaller females are cb from late 08i think, ill have to check but definately 08,so im pretty happy with them, they were a pretty good price too!
i also have another 2.1 that are all cb and about 2years old so fingers crossed i get some breeding/eggs etc at some point in the next few years,

thanks for the help graham
how are the ebs getting on m8?

its good that you've got some fairly young ones. A lot of the time when you find a good deal it is because the animals are 5+ years old, which is a bit old if you're looking for a breeding project.
The aff.ebenaui are doing well. I still have eggs hatching and have loads incubating still. Should have a good few up for grabs in the new year. The most recent eggs to hatch were incubated a lot cooler and took around 240 days I think. The babies that came out were much larger and more developed than the first couple of clutches, which is good.

yeah i was chuffed when he said that they are a young group especiealy with the cb females,as i say i also have some other young ones, they are definately my favorite species, ive just been putting aside any cash from my other breeding rhacs etc and putting it into uroplatus species,i know they arnt easy to breed but with them being so rare over here, all but my guentheri are from the continent, the way i see it,its money that i woudnt have if i wasnt keeping geckos so why not invest it into some of these stunning and rare species,

great to hear about your success with the long tailed ebs m8,if and when you are selling swapping some, keep me in mind m8,they are another species that i would like to get into sooner or later, infact i have a few doubts about one of my "phant" males, ill have to get some better pics and see what u think, maybe an aff ebenaui??
theres not many of us uro keepers over here,it would be great to aquire some without the hassle of going to hamm etc,i only discovered the genus a few years ago and started research etc,but in the few years i have managed to have relatively good luck finding them(not without alot of searching and encounteing a few scammers along the way),having a few eggs babys etc,so far its just the female pietschmanni ive lost,:(,its hard but i suppose its something uve got to expect every now and then keeping them, still baffled as to what it was, maybe it was just her time as there wasnt anything different from the previouse months,

how did the shipment go in the end?maybe we could put our heads together about another one some time?
