Here's one to make you think

I was browsing some photos of the Madagascar pool and came across this one.

Distinctly U. sikorae with those yellow eyes, but U. henkeli with that pattern.

I would say more U. sikorae than anything, but I've never seen a pattern like that on the species.

Agreed. I'd lean towards an unusually patterned sikorae. Amazing specimen, for sure. Seems to have the sikorae "snout" characteristics as well, IMHO.

I'm not sure of the locality, but I do know I saw a lot of pictures labeled as being from Nosy Mangabe. Can't say anything for sure, but she said elsewhere that at least on one of the geckos she found, genetic work was done.

The problem I'm having is finding how to send personal messages on flickr. It's making me feel pretty dumb.

Heres the link to the part of her album with this particular photo:

Its a male sikorae for sure...adult at that...

The tail is what makes it more sikorae than the eyes I think...

Eyes vary quite a bit depending on time of day and lighting...

The tail is more elongate...

If it where henkeli, it would most likely not have those fringes around the edges as an adult in the wild.

Its hemipenal buldges are very distinct...

That one really is different. I'd guess henkeli at first also based on the pattern, but those eyes and face really say sikorae. Weird one for sure.

I was not claiming it to be one species or the other. If I remember correctly, though, there is U. cf. sikorae listed in the Schonecker book.
