CGD and MRPs--information?

To add my twopennies worth from my experience with the Zoomed diet I prefer to give more livefood than prebought mixes.Whether other brands are better I cannot say but I believe that there is a tendancy to too much nutrition in captivity,if that makes sense. In the pictures of wild Phelsuma you rarely see fat individuals[granted they probably have internal parasites] but you regularly see fat or obese ones in captivity. The Phelsuma I have raised mainly on crickets dont tend to get obese.

Couldn't the obesity issue be addressed by simply offering food less frequently? (For example, feeding every other day, and not leaving the food in for the entire day)?

Sure it could but I still think that in the wild the food that they eat will not be packed with as much protein as man made diets. This is my own feeling and not any scientific study.

You think it will have less protein in the wild? But insects are very high protein, they are animals after all. If they eat mainly insects, their diet would be higher in protein, not lower.

It depends what insects they eat in the wild as some insects contain more protein than others , and there we go back to the start again.
In my opinion livefood with the occasional supplementation of thse diets would be best.

I know this post is pretty old but I thought I would add into this a little.

I have wondered about this very topic because I keep and breed cresteds. I have wanted to get into day geckos for a while and recently got some klemmeri. This was no problem because I am a dart frog breeder as well and make many culture of fruit flies a week as well as bean beetles, flour beetles, sprintails, and isopods. Now I can feed these little geckos my MRP and all these feeder insects. It works great and now I am getting a pair of l.williamsi as soon as I can.

To get back to the point I also will be getting some giant day gecko species soon...hopefully. I had wondered about feeding them mostly MRP because I only breed mealworms and want to keep the cricket bill low. I know we are talking very different things but as of right now my male crested eats only MRP. I can offer him bugs all day and he would never even consider. He is not fat by any means. He is slim trim and healthy. The female like the occasional mealworm/cricket but those are only offered once a week or so.

Since most of you seem to say MRP only is out of the question, would my females feeding regime be more feasable?
