Crested Gecko Hybrid is able to grow tail back

On Dec 30, 2009 I removed a tail for one of my chevron sara hybrids. Its tail was nipped by its hatchmate and was not looking good. I have been waiting to see if it would on its own, but didn't. This is a test to see if the sara's bloodline intergraded into a crested gecko would regrow their tails. As of this date im not aware of any other hybrids that are able to. My chahoua X crested was unable to do so and from what i understand a pure chahoua doesn't regrow from a full tail loss, but the sara will.

hmmmm very intresting that the tail can re grow..however even tho its a break through...im not sure i like the idea of changing a crested geckos genetical make up ..they werent designed to re grow there tails and the wont loose there tails if they arnt fiddled with to much by us....and again i know it is a natural defence to drop there tails but i dont like the idea of causing the little one to drop it by pinching it think its a bit un kind...sorry..intresting either way tho.

the main reason was to remove the damaged tail, it was become more infected, it would have caused more harm to leave it then remove it...the health of the gecko came 1st....yes this was a chance to see, but i would never do it for no health reason, theirs only a small number of them out their and didnt want to risk this guy dieing from an infection, tail removal was the safest way IMO.

i've seen pure chahoua with regrown tails from the base. very rare, but it does happen, though the regrown tails are always about 1/2 size and clearly regrown based on the texture of the scales.
