How do you know??? I have an UTH on 247 on one side of the Cage. The water is on the normal side and his den is kinda in the middle. I have a Red Light that comes on throughout the day on a timer... I was just wondering if they can get to hot and if so how would you know? Should i not have the light on much or does it matter?

Thanks

Yes, of course they can get too hot. You need a thermostat to control the heat and a thermometer in order to see what the actual temps are.

first 100 is too hot bring it down to like 92* and second i recommend to get maybe 2 more hides....you can make hides easily by cutting up some plastic containers

its a UTH, I dont have a thermostat on that because they are too expensive, I have not found a cheap reliable one yet.

then unplug it for a bit to cool it down if your looking for cheap look for a repti temp 500r its a very cheap one but you have to calibrate it because it uses a dial

where you get that and how do you calibrate it? is that hard? How can you control heat off something like that. There is one heat setting in this UTh you just plug it in and it heats up?

i got it at a show but i seen it in stores too. it has a probe like a thermometer would and basically you plug the uth into the thermostat and put the probe and your thermometer in the same spot and let it climb once its at the temp you want you dial it down till it shuts off.

Here's one that's less than $40. You can put the uth and the red light on it and get rid of the timer for the red light. And it's most certainly much more reliable than nothing at all.

You can also buy one of the zoo med heat pads and use a dimmer along with a thermometer, the dimmer works great at controlling the heat

The problem with dimmer is that if the ambient temperature of the room changes, the dimmer can't self adjust itself to compensate...a thermostat can. But yeah, it can be used. Better than nothing.
