Please help I have just rescued a gecko, I have snakes at home and I know. Bit about lizartds but this little guy is in really bad shape. Very skinny, hasn't ate except for a force feeding of two crickets. Heat and humiditiy are fine now but he can't see! He has crusted green over his eyes and he can't shut them. Eyes are swollen, actually I don't know if he has eeyes under the crust. He has a vets app. On Monday. Any help would be great

Welcome to GU ~

You are facing quite a dilemma with this gecko. What type?

Is the vet app Monday, May 3rd? Any chance you could get in sooner? Reptile vet?

In the meantime hold barely warm wet washcloth compresses over his eyes immediately. (Dampen a washcloth in barely warm water and hold over his eyes for maybe 10 minutes in an attempt to loosen the crust you speak of.)

Thank you for your advice! I got her in this monday! WOW I'm amazed at how bad people treat animals! She is doing better, she also has mouth rot as well as infection in the eyes plus a calcium def. bottom jaw is all soft. The vet cleared out her eyes and I'm so happy that they are still there! waiting to see if she will regain her sight.
I have meds to give her and I am grinding up mealworms and hand feeding her. Of course she is very under weight but thats the least of the worries.... I'm happy to say she has improved over the last couple of days! she seems very active and loves being on my shoulder.

Hi ~

Thanks for this info. You're welcome about the advice! Did your vet have any recommendations for getting calcium into your ailing leopard on a regular basis? She has to get this calcium. I have heard that MBD (metabolic bone disease), which is one thing your leopard has, is reversible.

You can buy this liquid human-grade supplement called Calcium Glubionate. It is sweetened and my geckos have licked it off their noses. Alternatively, you can mix it in with her ground up mealworms. You could coat crickets with Rep-Cal's Phosphorous-free ultrafine calcium powder.

Thanks for having such a big heart to rescue this gecko. Having a good appetite is a positive sign.
