naturally spherical grain calcium sand

I got this bag from a friend when i bought his old gecko stuff and it says "naturally spherical grains wont scratch reptiles inside or out". Now I know about impaction and how man made square sand causes impaction but would this be as bad and a bit easier to digest? Maybe even more if it was sifted?

PS: I am not going to use this. Just wondering :D

After many many years of working with reptiles, I've never had any issues with sand impaction using any type of sand. Sand impaction is almost always a secondary issue due to inadequate husbandry or other issues. However, some people prefer sand such as Jurassic Sand which supposedly have naturally spherical grains. It's simply a matter of opinion.

I have. I've seen my leopards with mouthfuls of the sand even though there was a dish of calcium right next to them. Maybe part of the problem is that the sand was white.

The "other" sand I would advise not to use is composed of sharply pointed silica crystals. Jurassic Reptile Playsand (orangish red) from Utah (Jerry Bergosh) is composed of quartz crystals which are naturally rounded.

Sand can easily be checked out under a microscope. I recommend paper towels for the first year of your gecko's life.

Be sure to read the survey at the top of the Eublepharis threads.
