I am going to investt in a new reptile soon, and wanted to have all of the oppinions I can before this next weekend. please tell me what you think I should get, and WHY. In fact, include a picture if you want. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I have plenty of experience when it comes to mostly all different types and I always can appreciate a bit of a challenge too. I have been thinking about a few different things (I know they are all COMPLETELY different to care for), like collared lizards, leopard gecko species, Tokays, and some other stuff. here are a few pictures of what I had in mind. I am not "limited" to anything. Give ANY suggestion you want and make it a fun one! Also FYI- I'm looking to purchase a breeding pair so I can breed, so if that helps at all.........anyway, get back to me soon!

I can give you my opinions (without pictures at the moment), though to some extent it depends on what you want to deal with. Would you rather have a big reptile in a big enclosure (that eats a lot and poops big poops all over the place) or a smaller reptile, where you can more easily have more than one?
I have one large reptile, a beardie, and would love to own a collared lizard because I think they are beautiful, or a blue tongue skink because I have heard they are intelligent and interesting to interact with. However, I only have room for one large reptile.

Many people think that leopard geckos are kind of boring because they are a "beginner" pet and they are so common, but after trying out crested geckos, day geckos and gargoyle geckos, my heart is still with leopard geckos. I love their colors and though I can't let them out in the garden the way I can my beardie, I really like being in the room with them in the evenings and watching them move around.

Another consideration is that if you want to ultimately breed a reptile, you should think about how many babies you may end up with and especially how easy it will be to sell them. My bearded dragon has laid 100 eggs this season (infertile - no male) and the last thing I'd want to do is to bring even 50 new beardies into the world; craigslist is full of people trying to get rid of their beardies. I also won't breed my day geckos because I feel that the potential buyers I have access to aren't the kind of people who will be able to correctly maintain a day gecko environment.

I hope this have given you some useful things to think about.

Well, I'm not sure if it's true, but I read that you can control gender according to temperature with leopard geckos, plus I have 2, handleable and gorgeuous. I also read that crested geckos are good pets, and also handleable. I myself am looking in to one. Tokays are large and not as easy and friendly. Gold geckos can die of stress if handled. Good luck!

Hi Aliza. Have you seen all of the different morphs of leos? i have owned and bred leos in the past to sell to friends and pet stores. I was less experienced than now and it was just something to build up knowlege and a way to get money, but now as a more experienced breeder- I want some awesome leo morphs to breed, and there IS a good market for them. Check out this site Leopard Geckos For Sale - Beautiful, Awesome Leopard Geckos! What do you think now? Or have you seen this before. I disagree that all leos are beginner pets....I think just certain kinds are and yeah- kinda takes the fun out of things when every beginner has one I agree

With beardies- Same thing. everyone has one, but there are different phases and morphs thus more market value, more fun , and more interest in the animal. As far as a large or small lizard, I have a 55 gallon long tank that needs an animal to occupy it. I want a breeding pair though. Any suggestions? AND I can maintain ANY smaller reptile too. Plenty of room.

YES! Actually you can control color (to some extent) AND gender in both leos and crested geckos with the right temirperature. I'm not to sure about with other reptiles though.... Anyway, I was thinking about tokays, but yeah you are right. They bite and dont let go and thats a problem and an inconvienience, but I still may get a couple in the future just to look at. I'm leaning toward a leo though. The morphs are sooooooooo awesome! Leopard Geckos For Sale - Beautiful, Awesome Leopard Geckos! Check it out if you havent.

I am staying away from gold geckos, day geckos are awesome, especially the giant breeds, and collared lizards are so pretty too. So, you want to get a crestie huh? Great pets, but there is some work with them and LOTS of homework. any questions, just ask. I have 3 now, and one is gravid, so maybe I can help you out if the price is right lol. I'll hook it up tho, don't worry.

Cool! And, I think that day geckos are cool, too! Great colors!
And the collared lizards are pretty, too. Also nice colors. And maybe a water dragon? There's always the iguana, but they're expensive at startup... I just wish that everyone could care for any herps perfectly so they all lived long, happy lives!
