Calcium Dish?

I've read that a calcium dish is an important object to have in my Gecko's vivarium. I just have a few questions though...

Should I offer the same calcium powder that I use when feeding dusted crickets?

Is it alright for the Gecko to eat just straight calcium powder?

How much and how often should he be eating straight powder?

Any other thoughts and tips I should consider would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I leave a calcium dish in there all they time, just in case he feels he needs it. I use to to dust his food everyday now I do it everyother day.

I use calcium with d3.

And the dish is a bottle cap.

Liz,

Im actually buying the gecko and the entire set up from someone who can no longer afford the time to care for it. Its a 20 gallon long tank and the lady told me that her brother "cut tile" to fit inside of the tank. I believe this means she has slate tile, one way or the other I'm sure it will be just as good. I'm pretty excited about the set up. The woman told me that its very easy to clean, avoids impaction, and holds the heat pretty well.

Hey everyone...

So I got my gecko today...I'll have pics up in a few days....

Anyway, so I purchased a food dish, it was actually a hermit crab dish same thing so far as I can tell. I read in a book that you can put the powder in the dish and let the meal worms naturally wriggle around in just prior to being eaten and then leave the remaining powder behind. This is what im doing right now. So far as I know his prior owner dusted his crickets and got him calcium that way. I saw him checking the powder out today and seemed to eat quite a bit of it. So Im just curious...can he eat too much? Will he naturally know when hes had enough? Are there any side effects of him consuming too much powder.

Oh and yes, it has D3 in it, which I was happy to see. The previous owner had just run out and bought a whole new bottle before I picked it up. I forget the exact brand.

Thoughts. Concerns. Etc. All greatly appreciated.
