Humid hide question

Hi all!

I just put in my leo’s new humid hide and he won’t leave it. He’s not due for a shed and he’s been in there for a couple hours. Before, I had a humid hide with moss in it (over the UTH) and he wouldn’t touch it. Now I have one with moist paper towels (over the UTH) and he won’t leave it. It’s rather cute that he adores it so much :biggrin: . I’m just wondering if it’s ok for his little leo lungs. No risk of pneumonia or anything of the sort, right?

Do yours frequent their humid hides often as well?

mine didnt like the moss at all none of them so im back to paper towls. mine like to stay in the wet hid any ways

THey can indeed develop respiratory issue if kept in too humid of conditions. Let the humid hide pretty much dry all the way out before re moistening.

My leo loves the moist hide and she's perfectly healthy. The moisture may help them digest their food. Also in nature leopard gecko hides are generally moist and cool but not too moist (they're desert animals for a reason). My gecko uses the moist hide as a water source as well its not uncommon to see her rubbing her tongue against the walls of the hide. Here are some pictures just after I have misted the hide.

Haha! That's adorable! She looks perfectly content! Yeah, my gecko left tongue prints all over his humid hide as well! By the way, is that your bell albino? She's pretty. Where did you get her?

Ya thats my bell albino. I got her for $45 from VMS Herpetology. They have a variety of really nice morphs and they are fairly inexpensive (although stupid FedEc shipping costs almost as much as the gecko!) . They really did a great job maintaining her health while she was there. After getting my normal from PetCo (with a lot of behavior/health issues) I decided to only get reptiles from breeders. The only problem with getting one from a big breeder like VMS is that they aren't accustomed to human contact as much so it takes longer to hand tame, I think anyway.
