I was at the petstore to pick up some crickets and the lady that works there told me to get wax worms instead. She seems to know a lot about Leopard Geckos so I got 40 ww and 40 crickets in case they don't eat the worms. She also said that ww are high in calcium and don't need to be dusted but I am thinking she is wrong on that. Are ww sutable for Leopard Geckos and Banded Geckos? and do they need to be dusted?

Waxworms are high in fat. They're not recommended to be anything more than an occasional treat. Geckos tend to get addicted to them and refuse other foods. A few people have called them "gecko crack".

That lady seems like she had them confused with butterworms or phoenix worms. Butters are decently healthy, but phoenix are high in calcium, soft bodied, and are a similar shade of yellow as waxworms.

Crickets or tropical roaches. Dusted with vitamins and calcium with D3.

I feed mealies, superworms, crickets, waxworm moths, phoenixworms to hatchlings, silkworms, and occasional butterworm when money's lucrative.

The more varied the better.

yeah apparently she doesnt know as much as she thought
wax worms aren't a good staple diet for leopards geckos because of their high fat content they can cause liver problems ive seen tons of places that they are considered the snickers bar of feeders and should only be used for treats every now and then but definitely not a substitute for their normal food
ive read up alot on the different feeders and iver heard crickets arent the best either because of their exo skeleton, it can bee a little rough on their stomaches, but my leos eat them just fine. i personally like to feed them meal worms because they are easy to gut load and super easy to take care of and they definitely beat the crickets in the smell department
i just introduced silkworms to my leos and they go bananas for them so that is definitely something i would suggest especially because they are so good for them

Petstores im sorry to say, don't always know much about what they sell. Everytime i go to this certain petstore in my area all the teen girls almost yell at me because im buying mealworms. They basically imply that im irresponsible because I feed these...It gets REALLY annoying.
