sterilizing plants?

Hi all,
i searched the forum for anything on sterilizing plants, but nothing came up.
So i was just wondering if i needed to sterilize plants from the local nursery?
and also how would i?

you don't really need to sterilize them, just wash them off with a bit of water and if thay have any perlite of anything thing like that wash the soil off the root and replant.

I second what Ozymandias has just said...rinse the leaves. I recommend repotting just in case the plant has been planted in fertilized soil.
