Satanic Gecko?

Hey, im Brandon, im new to this forum and am very active on Pangea(is that a 4 letter word here haha) anyways, i have a crested gecko that a pamper beyond belief sometimes... anyways ive had it for almsot 2 years now! i purchased it when i was 15 (yes im not 17 yet) and currently i have fallen in love with this pic i saw of a satanic gecko, its black and red (like the 3rd one if you google "stanic gecko") and when i look for breeders i cant find much... ive found an entire 1 breeder who sells stanics that are light tan CB but at 250$ i would rather spend more for a nicer one! thanks in advanced!

I know EXACTLY that you're talking about. That is my BBM icon. He's on the treebark with that demonic smirk, correct? Well... Satanics aren't the most COMMON geckos around. Did you check Kingsnake and Fauna classifieds? Lots of geckos there! I'm not so sure if I can say an individual breeder's name here. So, I'll PM it. However, I think if anything most satanics are tan =/ If you ever see one thats black or that one, PLEASE inform me as well!

I would not recommend any WC u. phantasticus for someone who has not kept Uroplatus. Recipe for Disaster.

Why do people still catch wild animals if there are some CBs in the hobby? Just wondering. WC seems to be for experts only, but never recommended.

Due to a limited number of people breeding/having success breeding. There aren't that many people that are doing just to resale offsprings. I would say for every 1 captive uroplatus produced, there are 100,000s of captive leopards produced, maybe even a 1:1,000,000 ratio.

Thus folks wanting to get these animals have to resort to the WCs. Though the WCs are starting to slim down (due to over plucking or CITES), there are a few breeders that are doing nothing but trying to develop a solid base of CB just to help with the conservation of the animals in Madagascar.

I have seen a good 50/50 ration of avertised CB to WCs today (outside of a few of the larger importers bringing in these animals a couple times a year), compared to what I saw in the hobby 10 years ago, when it was almost impossible to find CB... only a few folks had successfully reproduced this genus in the late 90's to early early 2000's. Now its getting better, and we are seeing a larger number of CBs being introduced into the hobby, but since the success rate of hatching and breeding isn't like that of a leopard or crested gecko, its going to take a lot of time to get this roling.

Ah so its breeding them successfuly that makes the problem as well as resales. Alright I got it now, thanks! That examples why there are barley any satanic-leaf tails on the market.

U. phantasticus also seem to be one of the harder to successfully breed, adding to a species specific issue as to why you don't see them as often, and when you do, they will be at a bare minimum of $250 USD. As already stated, most will be starting at that price, and moving up... These guys along with the U. pietschmanni won't be imported into the US after this year, so this will only drive at least these 2 things... 1) more hold backs from breeders, only offering up any of the animals in blood line trades for like animals, and 2) the price will go up for general hobby sales of the Uroplatus phantasticus, even for LTC.

The good in all this is that we won't be taking many from the wild in pet trades, as well as forcing some keepers to step up their game, and hone in their breeder skills to produce U. phanatasticus on a more stable and consistent basis.

lolz yeah and im probably going to wait for it to get going so that i might get a chance at the one that i truly want! maybe ill get a henkeli though too!

How hard are Satanic Leaf Geckos to take care for? How many can I fit in a 20 gallon High or 45 gallon tank? Where can I obtain them? I think they are so cool looking. Can they be handled or best for observing?

i know the picture you are talking about i saw it about a year ago and since then i have been looking for one like that and in total found maybe 10-15 of them but none with any coloration near that

They are definitely an observing animal, not a handler.
