First Hatchling Ebenaui

Hatched out my first ebenaui last night. Beautiful little guy. Has gone through first shed but looks like so far he has not had any problems getting off and he has some left and its not dry so to not risk stressing him since he has gotten all off so far I will let him do it. Tried feeding him some hydei but not sure if he ate any. For flies that cant climb they do a good job. Not sure how many are getting out so gonna get smaller crickets tomorrow. You guys just mist yours or provide water dishes? Also this ebenaui has a long tail almost looks like a phant but as far as I know the ebenaui I have are "normal" and not the tails dont look regrown. Anyone ever have a ebenaui hatchling with a "phant" tail? Thanks. Take care.

I setup mine in small faunaboxes, with some sticks and some fake pothos leaf cover. I use papirtowl as substarte/groundcover easy to clean and see if the geckos eating. I dont use a waterbowl, just mist every evening. as the gecko will drink from the leafs and side of the box. no problmens yet. I feed small crikets.

Would like to see a picture of the parents and the young hacthling, sounds interresting with the tail.

Hope he does well for you.

Robin pretty much summed it up. :)

I too am very interested in seeing pictures of the baby. Where did you parent's come from?

Cheers!

Some pics of it

The pics are not very good cause the camera sucks. The hatchling and the male ebenaui. I couldnt get one of the female cause she was in a bunch of plants. Thanks.

We would need a much clearer image of both (even the adult female if you can) to give any sort of assessment. Out of curiosity, can you see the throat color of the adults?

I will say, that tail is *very* long for any ebenaui (or sp.nov.aff.ebenaui), let alone a hatchling...

Cheers!

Very interesting. Well, keep us posted on how this little one does. I know I'm interested to see this one grow up... :)

Your Ebenaui are absolutely beautiful.
However the parents tails don't exactly look like "normal ebenaui" tails.
Is it possible you have tailless Phants?

Either way, nice animals!

Based on the pictures, I'm putting my money on Uroplatus sp.nov.aff.ebenaui. The tails do look a tad bit smaller than usual, but the strip down the males back through the tail indicates he had not previously lost the tail.

Generally, there is a good amount of intraspecific genetic variation that sometimes you have no idea why something like that hatched from two completely different looking parents. Though I have to admit, the tail on the hatchling does resemble that of U.phantasticus. :)

I thought maybe they were phants too after this guy hatched out. Everything I look at and read points at this guy is a phant hatchling but the parents are ebenaui. I bought them from Steven G at gekkocorner said he had them for a while.

Incredible, haha. The last set of pics you posted is interesting because the Male looks ebenaui to me and the female looks like a phantasticus that has dropped her tail. I have always wondered if they could breed with each other, always assumed they could. This is interesting because one could make an argument that they really are not two distinct species, but rather a variation of each. I would love to see a clear picture of the hatchling.

I´m sure your animals are Uroplatus phantasticus. Waiting for more pictures.

all animals pictured are 100% phantasticus (I can go to 200% if needed)

Just wondering, if you can expand on your reasoning for saying they are. I am not doubting this one bit, as I would say the same (the female looks just like my female, just no tail) but was wondering if there where indicators you guys see that are selling you on the fact they are phants instead of ebens?

Thanks
