[SOLVED] Suggestions! Mealworm dish

Hi,
I just bought a mealworm dish for my gecko, Zippy, and I was wondering do any of you out there have any suggestions on how to 'train' him that in the dish is where the mealworms are located. He is used to being fed by hand (yellow tweezers) daily.

Thanks!

Try putting the dish right by the entrance to his hide (not on top of the heater), and put a small carrot in there to help stimulate activity. He'll figure it out.

But his whole hide is on the heater. I might move it so it will be half heated and half not. Thanks for replying!

If he is used to being feed with tweezers, use them to guide him to the bowl. Just keep the mealworm out of reach and make him come to the bowl with the other worms in it. He will more than likely pig out on them once he sees them there. You may have to do this two or three times before he gets the idea that the bowl is where his food is.

Ok Thanks! I will try it and let you know.

Also, patience is importance. When I changed my gecko from crickets to meal worms she was able to just find it in time, just make sure the meal worms are moving. I also think it helped to drop the meal worms in for her when she was out, that way she saw some movement from the location of the dish.

In my experience they usually figure it out at night by themselves.... you should count the mealworms you put in to make sure he is eating them.... they are usually active during the night, wandering around, and even if you hand-feed him they don't completely loose their instrincts, so, he'll probably find it anyways I believe...
