Crested gecko shedding problem

hey everyone.

i have a crested gecko who is taking longer than normal to shed. Normally it takes him/her two days to completely shed. However, it has been two weeks since he/she started. Is this normal? and also, i just bought some Zoomed repti shedding aid. Since crested geckos eat their shed, i was wondering if this would be harmful to him/her. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

a shed lasting that long is not normal. I would not use the shed aid, instead make a "sauna" for them. To do this get any type of container that seals (deli cup, tupperware container etc.) place a soaked paper towel or two in the bottom of it (luke warm water) then place your gecko in it, spray your gecko a couple of times and shut the top. Leave him/her in there for at least 15 min. Do this daily until the shed is done.

As far as the shedding problem goes, how are you misting the enclosure? what are your humidity levels? do you provide a water dish?(even though not really necessary for them since they rarely drink from it, but it keeps the relative humidity up and allows them a water source if needed)

i spray the enclosure 3 times a day. i dont know about the humidty levels, didn't want to waste money on a hydrometer. and i did stop offering a water dish. i will definately try what you told me and will put a water dish in right away. Thanks for the help.

you shouldn't need to mist more than twice a day. You should let your enclosure dry out during the day....this will prevent mold and fungus. Replace the water dish when soiled w/ feces or about every 2-3 days to prevent bacteria from growing
