Hello everyone! I am a mother of a teenage daughter that loves living creatures... well so do I, but a few weeks ago she told us she wanted a reptile. We looked at her a bit puzzled because we just never thought of her as the reptile sort. She said she's wanted one since she was about 7 years old. We were a bit surprised as we've been through all kinds of pet routes. We presently have a chocolate lab, a cat, a parrotlet. We have had fish, frogs, sea-monkeys, several hamsters and not sure if I've remembered them all. I being one who also loves creatures started to educate myself about what would be a good first time lizard. We found a very informative young salesman at our local pet store that my daughter and I related to quite well. He told us that a leopard gecko would be a really good first lizard for us because they don't get real big, are easy to handle and live for a pretty long time.
So I started to read everything I could get my hands on about them and started to fall in love with them also. Now, I just had to convince my other half that it would be a nice addition to our little zoo! I found that there was a local reptile show coming up that weekend so I had my work cut out for me.
First my daughter and I visited the pet store again to hold one to see how easy they were to handle. Both of us were shocked at how soft and velvety they felt! They were also so calm and gentle. We both had the misconception that they would be rough and gnarly but it was a pleasant surprise how soft and down right adorable they are! Yep... I was hooked! Next day we brought my husband to see them but he said the usual... "Don't get your hopes up!" That Sunday after church we were attending the reptile show and found a really cute Female Eclipse p.h. Tremper Leo that even Dad liked. We snagged some food, supplements and calcium before the trip home to the tank that had been set up and ready for the last 3 days!
We got her home fine and she really loved the one hiding rock we got her that you can uncover from outside of the tank via magnets. She We've had her for 2 weeks now and she spends most of her time in that rock. She is slowly getting to know us and we are starting to handle her daily now for the last 3 days. BTW she is approximately 6-7 months old. She is sweet and adorable addition to our family zoo!
