Fast way to lower temp?

Hey guys, I have to go to work in 20 minutes and can't make it to the petstore. I turned on the thermometer today and it read 102 degrees. I put down some more layers of paper towel in the hot side for now. Is it better to leave it at that or unplug it?

If you have something you can put over it, rock, decoration, tile, etc.. do that for now. Then pickup a thermostat today so you can regulate the temperature.

Layer on the paper towels. Don't leave until you get the temps below 90F until tomorrow when you can get to the store, then bring them back up to 90-95F.

How the hell did you get your tank to 102? I use a ceramic heat emitter and a uth that is sized for 10-20 gallon tanks when I'm currently using a 10 gallon. I can barely get it above 85 and i live in florida, average house temp of 75. Last night i did get it to jump close to 90 by adding a tile underneath my reptile carpet.

Ok so I got home today and the temp was 95... Heres the deal, I put the probe under the paper towels so that my gecko wouldnt mess with it for any reason, it was right on the glass over the UTH. Now its one paper towel under the top layer and it reads 95... what do I do. I know getting a thermostat is the best bet, but I just cant afford it right now, maybe by friday, but not now...

If it was right against the glass that could be part of the problem, it will be a bit cooler above that as not all the heat will get through.
