Auriculatus Sexing Help

Hello,
I believe I'm in the right spot, but if not I am terribly sorry. This is my first thread. I have a question regarding the sex of my garg. I bought Phoebe when she was roughly 3 months old, and the breeder said she was a female. However, Phoebs just turned 1 and I have noticed...well..she has a bit of a bulge, lol. She's my first garg, so I've read up a bunch and what I'm finding is that sometimes females can also get a small hemipenal bulge? And I cannot find any pre-anal pores. The bulge isn't really big, but it is noticeable, and you can only see it from the side, not looking down at her. I'm wondering if I need to start thinking of male names lol?
Thanks

Below I have posted pics from the top, side, and an angle where it was more visible when she moved.

She looks like a she to me! She has what I call girl puffiness and it is normal in girl gargs. Boy gargs would show a very obvious bulge. When I log into my laptop later I'll email you photos showing you the difference between girl puffiness and boy bulge.

Awesome! Thanks so much. I figured she was, but I wanted the opinion of someone more experienced than me in case I get her a cagemate. :)

i agree, definitely a female. You would definitely have obvious pores and a clear large bulge if it were male. Females can have pseudo-pores but since you have none and it is a typical small "puffiness" seen in a few of the rhac species you've got yourself a little lady :)

Thank you! :)
Also, [my first garg, so still learning a few things lol, sorry] would the pores be visible without a magnifying glass by this age? Unfortunately I don't have one but even under great lighting I couldn't see any. If I need to invest in one I will lol.

weight tends to matter more than age but yeah you should easily see them by now from the looks of it in the container. I have a juvie that's 18 grams (8 months) that I can now say for sure is female. She has no pores and no bulge (no more than yours anyway).

Hey guys,
Sorry to bother you again. I recently joined the Repashy forums, and when I posted pics of Phoebe someone commented on how large her bulge was. I said I had checked for pores and couldn't find any, but it made me second guess myself. So today I checked her again and at first I saw no difference. Even under the brightest light in my house I couldn't see any pores. But to be safe I grabbed my phone [it has a VERY VERY bright flashlight] and when I looked at her under the flashlight I could see the tiniest dots. I swear they just showed up this week :?, and I can only see them under that intense light. Also, there are no waxy secretions. I just wanted to know if these could be psuedo pores? [No wax, and I can only see them under VERY bright direct light.] Anyways, they are WAY too tiny to get a picture of. So I took another side and top view a few minutes ago. Still think female? Would male pores be easier to see? Phoebe fits her personality so well, I'm kinda worried now hahaha. Sorry for the long post, I try to give you guys all the info at once lol. Thanks again for any help!

This is the best I could get. Sorry. She's really wiggly tonight, and flash causes a glare.

Well like I said above, if I shine a REALLY REALLY bright light directly on her I can see super tiny dots. But I am wondering if these are psuedo pores as there are no waxy secretions [She turned 1 back in June and she weighs over 35 grams, so from what I've read you should be able to see the shine of the wax by now? And would the pores be more visible if they were true pores? They're really difficult to see.]. Thanks for helping me. lol :)

Girls can have puffiness; a male's bulge is very obvious. I still agree that you have a FEMALE gargoyle.....here are a couple quick photos I just took to show girl puffiness vs male bulge: :coverlaugh:

breeding female @ 70grams
side shot shows puffiness, but overhead shot has no signs of a bulge

breeder male @ 55grams

sub-adult male @ 32grams

Yeah, if you girl was a boy at her current weight she would be flaunting a nice bulge! One of my sub-adult girls who is the same size as your girl has a pretty big puffiness & I sometime have to take a double take when looking at her, but she is all girl. When she wakes up from under her plant tonight, I'll see if I can get a good photo of her puffiness.
