Bromeliad Pup help

hi,

I planted my crested geckos vivarium about three weeks ago and now as I look at the brom I have in it, there seems to be a smaller version of the plant itself ( pup as I have researched) growing out the side of it. How
would I go about removing it for future planting ,or would it be ok if left on the side of the plant.

All answers appreciated.

P.S. I'm not an big botanist so sorry if some of the terms are confusing.

You should wait until the pup is at least 1/3 the size of the of the mother. When it is large enough to be removed, take the mother brom out of the soil and cut the pup off at the base in a way so that you leave some roots on the pup from the original brom.

I took my pup off as soon as the bromiliad finished its bloom. I'm now waiting for the 2nd pup in the cycle to bloom, maybe in about 6 months.

most Bromeliads (Especially Neoregelias) shouldn't be placed in soil, unless it's soil specifically made for Bromeliads (which honestly isn't appropriate for geckos). They are epiphytic plants, and they should be grown on backgrounds or something similar.

Otherwise the 1/3 size of the mother rule usually works. It doesn't hurt to leave it on and let it form a clump, tho.

You want to make sure the Bromeliad can hold water on it's own before separating it.
