Crested gecko safe in tubs?

HI all,

tommorrow I'll be getting a baby crested gecko.
I was wondering if he'll be ok in a sterilite tub(with vines and foliage) for a while until he gets big enough in my opinion for a terrarium.

Should be fine, as long as they can find s/he can find their food and if you have a cover but with a good amount of ventilation. Make sure not to keep open because mine escaped once and lost its tail. Congrats on a new gecko

how big is the tub roughly??

the tub I would say is about 1ft tall by 1ft wide and10 inches deep but remember it's a baby gecko and it's a grow out tank

yeah that will be plenty big enough for him i wouldnt advise keeping him in there for a long time but for a few months thatll be fine

I house my 2 baby cresties in a 30qt tub for a few months and my adult in a 90qt for a few months as well while I was in the process of custom building their enclosures.

We keep all our cresteds in plastic tubs with screen on the lid for ventelation. It works perfectly for all of them. Even the babies...and that size shld be good for your baby

do you need screen lids or is that an option providing there is ample ventilation?

I keep all of mine in Sterilite containers. The adults go in the large containers on breeding pairs, and the babies-thru-juvis get their own small containers(shoe box size). I was cleaning so I took pictures for you, but the containers in the image dont have everything in them. They have twice as many plants as you see in the image + bamboo sticks.

Here is how I set mine up. The fronts have mesh screen, and the lids have holes drilled in them:

I don't have Mesh, instead I have 3 vents glued on three sides of the tub and a lot of holes in the lid. You think I'd be better off using mesh on one end?

I open him out once or twice a day so all air is definately fresh.

It depends on the area which you live. The more humid, the more ventilation is needed. I personally only use holes drilled into the sides and top, and get the wanted humidity cycle.
