Meet my new rescue RAMONCIT@! A 3 legged leo hatchling

A couple of weeks ago one friend sent me a picture of a very cute albino tangerine hatchling with only 3 legs :? (He breeds leos professionally) and immediately I was in love with it!! I told him he was very very cute but my friend said, "Yes, too bad he won't last much longer, we are plannning on putting him down today, he had an accident and lost one leg" I couldn't believe it!!! I asked, begged for him to not do that and that I would be more than happy to care for him!! the thing is my friend lives in another city... we managed to pick him up and now he is my latest rescue!!! He is SOOOOO sweet, eats perfectly, sheds fine, walks around a little slowly, but he definitively moves around!! I love him so much, I set him up in a 10 gallon tank and one of my favourite geckos now!! Here are some pics: (In chronological order, the first from day one and the last one from yesterday, his tail has gotten fatter!! :cheer: ) I believe he can live just fine, just needs me to hand feed him (with tweezers) because he is a really bad hunter, it takes him about 5-7 tries to get a mealworm from a dish, and almost impossible to get a cricket or grasshopper! I am hand feeding him grasshoppers every day and I leave a mealworm dish at all times with 3-4 mealies just in case he wants one.... yesterday I gave him a couple baby roaches for the first time and he seemed to like it!!!
Anyways, I am such a proud mother I wanted to share some pics!!
(Do you think he'll develope a carrot tail -look at the last picture specificly, from yesterday-??? he is one month exactly today)

He looks great. I have seen some videos of other geckos that lost legs and they seemed to do just fine, though I imagine they need a bit of help catching things, so I am really glad you saved the little one.

you probably should have called it tripod :) LoL!

Jack,

Yeah!! LOL, you know, his name is something similar.... but in spanish (I live in Venezuela, South America), people who lack one leg, or one arm, or one hand are called MOCHOS (in spanish) and the short for RAMONCITO is MONCHITO, well, it's hard to explain and make sense of the joke in english, hehehe anyways... there is a sense-joke in his name, like tripod :coverlaugh: it is funny because he walks like he had a cane , soooooo cute (a little slow, but with personality!)

what accident did he got involved in?

I don't know :( He was like this when I first met him... my friend wouldn't tell me, I guess he felt ashamed because most likely the accident was his fault, I wish I knew

Cute little guy turning into a real beauty!
My female leo has some issues with her eye sight, so I help her out by placing roaches on their backs for her and stuff like that.
Obviously in nature neither yours nor mine would survive, but since they are kept as pets, I dont see anything wrong with helping them out a bit, as long as the animal seems happy and healthy.
Kudos to you for being a caring leo "mommy".

My best
Chrissie

Absolutely agreed!! Neither of my geckos would survive in the wild!! I cut the cricket's/grasshopper's/locust's back legs so they can not jump, I put mealworms in a white dish so they are easily visible, I give roaches with tweezers!!! mine go crazy when they see me holding the tweezers, since they will never have to be in the wild I spoil them as much as I can! And in the case of Ramoncito, since he is like an "underdog" I spoil him even more!! :blushing:

I'm so happy to know there are other moms of tripods out there! Not happy for the geckos, but just to know I'm not the only one. Mine had his front right amputated at the shoulder. Rescued him day after amputation. He is actually doing really well. Slow and awkward to hunt, but getting there. We mostly hand feed now. We named ours TriQuad, which my 12 year old son says means 3 out of 4. :)

Yours is beautiful!!
