How to plant

I'm getting a pacman frog soon and want to properly plant some life plants as I hate the look of fake. I understand you need hydroballs, screen, and cocoa fiber. I believe you put down 2'' of hydroballs, then the screen, then the cocoa fiber. I think the hydroballs are for drainage? And with an UTH it'll evaporate the water that drains and help with humidity? I'm mostly confused on what to do with the plants. Do I just plant them in the cocoa fiber? Or cut a hole in the screen and let it go down to the hydroballs? Do I have to use hydroballs or can i Just use gravel? Thanks! And if anyone has some tips or advice, feel free to throw it in there!

Hydroballs are purely for drainage so no plants, soil, etc should really get into the hydroball layer. That's what the screen mesh is for -it keeps the substrate from clogging up the hydroball layer. The only thing that should really get through to the hydroballs is whatever the screen lets through.
