Can anyone suggest a good digital hygrometer, thermometer, or combo thereof? The few that I've looked at have mixed reviews (failing early, readings being off, etc).

How much money are you willing to spend? Quality sort of keeps going up as you pass over more and more cash. The point of no real increasing returns is around $300 in my opinion, but that could be excessive for some people though.
Take a look at WatchDog Data loggers, they come in a vast number of forms that will work in any vivarium and provide you with precision data on both temperature and humidity, or just about any other environmental data you might be interested in monitoring.
