Juvenile shedding

I noticed this morning that the tip of the tail of my 2.5 months old grandis had turned grey.. I guess that it's caused by a bad shedding, but I can't see any remaining piece around the tip. Hopefully he will sort it out himself today, but I'm worried that the tip has been damaged permanently..?

And just for interest, does anyone know when grandis have their first shed?

Any chance of getting a picture up? It could be shed or if it is damaged it might need to be removed(so it can regrow). A picture would help sort out the possibilities.

I have not bred grandis, but with nearly all the Phelsuma I hatched this year shed within the first 24 hours. Usually before I could get them out of the incubation container.

Bah, the timing is not very good.. My baby is moving to its new home tomorrow. I will try to take a photo tomorrow morning and post it, but the new owners will have to deal with the problem if it remains..

Hehe, well yes, reading it again it doesn't sound extremely neat Maureen.. But I don't mind, the only thing that matters is that I know I take good care of my little ones. And the new owner WOULD have had to deal with it, I don't plan long trips with my geckos every day.. Luckily, my baby got of all the skin itself, so he was ok by the morning!

A responsible breeder/seller SHOULD make certain a gecko is in top health before sending it off to a new home. If the gecko is in your care it is your problem to deal with before it transfers hands if it is showing signs of illness. That is in all honesty rude and messed up to expect a new owner to deal with the issue.

I've happily waited to recieve geckos that were having shed issues before. I was very happy that the breeder told me what was going on and that they wanted to make sure the issue was resolved before sending the gecko on to me.

IMO not only was that the responsible thing to do for the animal itself (as sometimes shed problems can be indicative of other health issues) but also good customer service.

On the other hand, I've also received animals with stuck shed that obviously was present before the animal was shipped to me, and I will not again do business with anyone who sends an animal out like that.

It is good to hear that you care about your pets. So do I. I would not hand a juvenile over to an owner that I did not approve of and did not think was competent enough. As to service and money I will not go into detail, but I believe I did the right thing.
