Ever experienced bullying between animals? Whether different sizes ( dont mean big difference in size maybe like a 7 inch to a 5 inch or something)etc. I know phants can be little turds with each other mostly with males but what about like sikorae and others? thx.

Yes, don't keep any Uro species with too big size differences. Henkelis and fimbs are master bulliers ;)

Once upon a time there were French sources saying most members of the Uroplatus genus could be kept together in big enclosures, including several adult pairs.

I figured out that could be true -after all, Tropiocolotes males and a few other species can be housed together, I experienced that myself without any issues with tropios. After less than 20 minutes with two males henkeli uttering sounds and trying to bite each other, I ended up with different convictions

Meanwhile I know at least one person who has kept a group with several phantasticus males together unproblematically over a quite long period of time (2 or 3 years if I remember well).

From what I have been told by another breeder, phantasticus and ebenaui are bulliers too, but do it less openly than the biggest species- you know, when there is nobody around their enclosures, they corner each other gently and fight till death whenever given a chance to do so, usually in darker parts of the enclosure. Satanics, eh? ;)

Without any issues at all, I have kept male lineatus together, and lineatus with fimbriatus (different combinations of males and females, but similarly sized).
The only agression I have seen from any of my Uroplatus has been with finiavana and henkeli between a male and female.

U. finiavana females seem to get on very well together.

I think there is a little luck involved with it. A friend of mine kept 2.1 U. guentheri for years in a rather small cage without any problems. I tried to put 2.2 guentheri in a big cage a couple of weeks ago. Afther 2 days the smallest male stayed on the ground the whole day. Not a good sign so I removed the biggest one. The small one is doing fine now with his 2 females.
I also kept 2 male lineatus without a female toghether in my big vivarium. No problem until a female was added to it. Result on the picture. It healed nicely within days.

I believe it is a matter of territory. Place two males in a new clean enclosure and they will be less likely to fight, but place a stranger male into an established males enclosure, and forget about it. One of them will loose. There have been observations of sikorae scenting or marking their territory but data is lacking on the topic at the moment. This, however, does suggest they develop territories in which they feel the need to warn other animals of it. Or it could be to attract females, either way, it's still fascinating.

In my experience, males will eventually always wind up fighting. Even brothers of the same clutch who grown up together occasionally bicker and go after each other. The key is to have enough space for the weaker animal to get away, or the attacker may really do some damage.

Male sameiti seem to be the worst of the group with henkeli and fimbriatus coming in at a close second. sikroae males have never had issues for us, neither have lineatus males typically, but if you want to see a fun interaction, put a couple of guentheri males together for a while. Tons of barking and chirping, then they seem to dance around each other.

Note, while guentheri are not as visually striking (some would say) they definitely make up for it in personality!

It didn't take us very long to make a hard rule in our policy to not house multiple males together for the long term. When transporting etc, the stress is enough to let them forget about each other, but not as permanent residents. :)

Cheers!

I think that when this can be avoided, I would certainly do so.

Any animal can be agressive, and we can't really say wheather or not your animals will fight or will get along, but why take the chance?

Also, 7 inches and 5 inches can be a BIG difference. A lot of animals as they're growing up will hit that lengthy, awkward stage and might be 5" but much thinner than a 7", older animal.

If you must house two males together, please, observe them very well and very often.

Good luck,
-Armen
