New Tokay setup

So yesterday I went out and bought myself a used exo terra 18x18x24. Pretty happy with it, much bigger then the other enclosure I had her in which was a 12x12x18. I dont have pics yet, but there are custom backgrounds in it with room for plants in which I would like to start growing. However, I do have a question, what is the biggest dome light that can fit on top of the screen? Right now I have a 5.5 inch, but would like to get a bigger one as the 5.5 only accommodates 75 watt bulbs max.

You can get pretty big dome lights. My suggestion is to simply go to any Home Depot type store and see what they have available. The one near me sells them in about 5 or 6 different sizes. They're also much cheaper than the ones that are sold as being for reptiles. They'll state right on them how many watts they can handle.

She loves the new enclosure. Shes always up on the walls and climbing around. Looks really good and she does have a lot of room. However I do need to add more verticle hides because I have been lacking on that in the new bigger enclosure. I also have some custom backgrounds in there with pots for plants in which I want to try to grow some plants real soon. Also looking into a 7 inch dome light for the top and a 125 watt bulb for heat. Really happy with my purchase of the new tank and its great to see her loving it. I had my tokay in a 12x12x18 for about 6-8 months and now finally got her into a bigger one. Its always a good feeling.

the only downside is that if you go too high, the plastic can melt in a typical fixture. that's why the ceramic fixture is usually a good thing.

with exo terras, the other concern is that even though the top is 18x18, the reinforcement bar is made out of plastic that can melt with a hot bulb over it.

I'm not sure whether your bulb will warp or melt either plastic part, but it's something you might want to watch for?

and...this doesn't count if you don't post pictures!! I'm glad she's happier.

I know exactly what you mean. I melted the plastic on my 12x12x18. I had my 5.5 inch dome resting on the plastic and it did melt it. Right now the 5.5 dome sits perfectly on the mesh but the wattage of the bulb is too law and cant accomodate anymore.

So I do hope that when I do get a 7 inch dome, that it still sits on the mesh screen so that I wont have a melting problem.

Here is a picture of the enclosure. I'm looking into buying some Pothos to plant in those little pots on the left side of the enclosure.

awesome! I'm sure your gecko will appreciate some more cover, but that's a nice-looking setup.
