2 Tokay Eggs hatched

Came home from work yesterday and found that 2 of the eggs hatched. One of the babies was still in the tube and was so tiny. After the lights went out I did see it out of the tube and hide in a crevice in the back corner of the cage. I didn't see the other one. Daddy always comes out of his tube at dusk, eats his crickets then checks the eggs then goes hangs out in his spot. Last night I noticed he was hanging out around the tube with the eggs more than he usually does. I've been feeding him everyday for the past week rather than his every other day feeding so he wouldn't be so hungry when the eggs hatch. I hope they are safe around him, he does seam protective of the eggs. I didn't see either of the babies this morning.

Congrats!!!!:yahoo:
As long as he's the Daddy, they're fine. If he wasn't then they're gone.
If I recall correctly, he is the sire, right?

Enjoy!

Daddy Tokay

Yes, he is the daddy. I've only seen one of the two and only a quick glimpse or blur at that. It is in the tube during the day and hiding somewhere in the cage during the night. Daddy will go right up next to the tube with the eggs when I am around. He always checks on the eggs at dusk right after he eats, so he must know they are there. I'm just wondering where the other one is. He shouldn't be too hungry, I've been feeding him every day for the past week (instead of every other day).

He will defend his Toks, not eat them. Assuming they both hatched and one is not a few days late which is typical, they are really good at hiding for the first couple of days/nights.

Start getting 1/4" crickets to throw in with the big ones so the Toks have an easier time of taking them down.

And remember, they are really fast. And they do not always move to the back of the enclosure when you open the door like the adults will do. They will just as easily come flying right out at you, and I mean flying.

At some point, if you are trying to pick one up, if it is waving the white stripes of it's tail back and forth, don't try. Wait until it settles down again. The waving tail in hatchlings is a decoy to get a predator to attack the tail which it will drop as soon as you reach for it.:(

I find a small aquarium fish net works much better. They do not seem to 'see' the net.

Hey, I assume there are more eggs. Just wait until you have six Toklings running around, that's fun.:yahoo:

Baby Tokay pictures

I got home today and found daddy tokay on the glass near his tube and right behind him was a baby tokay. I didn't see the baby until it moved and hide in a corner. Two of the tokays hatched 3 days ago. So, I've seen one of the two a few times but I still haven't seen the second one. I'm curious how they are going to turn out when they get older. The parents are green Tokays from Indonesia.

They could look normal/gray and they could look green with spots. I'm going mostly with green with various spots. Each hatchling can become different.

If you look at the second photo I posted with my last submission, one is light and it's clutch-mate is dark, so you never know.

Found swcond baby

I've finally seen the mystery second Tokay baby last night. They were both hanging around in the area of the cricket bowl. I know it is too early for them to eat but it still seams to get their interest. The pictures show the baby's tail near the father's head.
