Today I spent time weighing some of my 2011 Rhacodactylus trachyrhynchus trachycephalus' so I decided to make it a photo shoot as well.
For those of you who have not been around these guys, they have similar care of any other Rhac. They are a touch flighty at birth but as they grow they are very manageable and tame down very well. They love insects of all types and devour crested gecko diet.
They become active as the sun starts to set. They are extremely social. They sleep in the same place everynight and usually in pairs or trios. They exhibit a level of socialness that is similar to Monkey Tailed Skinks.
They give live birth to only two babies a year, usually in fall.
They come in Spotted, Speckled, Barred and patternless. My Favorite is the spotted and the barred.
They seem to like a basking spot or heat tape spot.
In breeding adults, it is recommended to have uv and a basking spot to help them regulate the temp of the developing babies.
Due to their scarcity and low reproductive ability, their price has stayed very high. I feel like once people get fed up spending $$$ on different crested morphs and other Rhac morphs, these will become more popular.
They are my favorite gecko that I have ever worked with.
