Leopard Gecko Sundrop's condition

So this thread is for sundrop my little gecko rescue. There's another thread with info about her and the others we picked up with her but it was getting confusing so this one is just about her.

So history, we picked her up at the petstore where she was underweight and super dehydrated. Also kept on sand. She's been to the vet 3 or 4 times. She was on Baytril and Metronaidazole for infection aswell as she was given a shot for tapeworm. Some photos of her and her poops from the other thread.
when we got her:

So she's been losing weight still and excessively drinking lately. Now she had an almost normal poop this morning with no huge puddle of water.

I'm waiting on a call from the vet to talk about what we can do next.

How is her appetite??

Not very good I'm afraid. She doesn't seem to want the crickets. She will eat silkworms but I don't always have them on hand.
She regurgutated the cricket she ate last night. It makes me really sad. I'm stupmped aswell because she has had all the same treatments as Cherish besides the Safe guard suspension

It'll be the two weeks since her shot on tuesday and I don't want to take her in and get that done again if it's not helping. But I can't do another fecal because she's not going to the bathroom.

I was wondering if maybe the combination of the Safe guard, metronaidazole and baytril are what's making Cherish feel better and hold her weight. I can speculate all I want but I really know nothing.

And my vet is on maternity leave so now I'm waiting on another of the herp vets to get back to me. I thought it was weird that she didn't get back to me and now I know why.

I think because the silkworms are soft they are easier to digest that is why they prefer them.
I feel like Cherish and Sundrop should be treated the same as far as medicine and examinations go- since they were house together before you got them.
What is safeguard? is it an antibiotic?
I would try giving her a boost with liquid nutrients.

Safe Guard Suspention is what was on the envelope. I'm wasn't told what was in it just that it was a general dewormer. That was one reason I switched vets, the old one never told me anything. When the vet calls me I'll see what they think about it.

My suspicion is she is suffering from a high load of nematode infestation. These are the most common in leopard geckos. This is why I said she should have been treated with safe guard at the same time Cherish was treated because they were housed together.

Safeguard is another brand name for Fenbendazole.

Drug used to treat Nematodes is Fenbendazole.

Increased water drinking
regurgitation
choosing easier to digest insects with higher moisture content- this is why I stress hydration status so much before drugs are administered which seems to be ignored.

This is one of the reasons so many reptiles end up with kidney failure. Most important the body must have sufficient WATER I love water.

Dehydration can be caused by many reasons, however in this particular case we know she is suffering from a high load of parasites as seen in her regurge.
Kidney disease is also possible and more common than people think which leads to dehydration and regurgitation. By now I would have had blood work to check kidney function. Blood test is often ignored which can answer many questions and save tons of unnecessary steps.

She should have been treated with Fenbendazole before trying praziquantel (tapeworm drug). I suggest you stress the Fenbendazole when the vet calls.

The vet said she was thinking the same thing. They use Pancure instead of Safe Guard Suspention at this vet. They want me to take sundrop in at 11:30 but I'm not sure that I want her in the car on the highway for an hour and a half so I might see about just picking it up.

Believe me we all hate to take the geckos out of their homes, but I think it will be best so that the vet can address hydration status if needed and examine a few things.

So we missed our appointment this morning and here's why: On my way home from dropping the boyfriend off at work for 9:40, I spotted a snapping turtle on the side of the road in a nest. There was one of those tractors that mows the grass on the side of the road heading that way so I parked the car behind the turtle and called up mom to bring the other car so she could have hers for going to town. Basically the tractor guy stopped and had a conversation with us, his wife showed up and us three famales sat vigil with the turtle until her eggs were laid, covered and she was on her way home at 11:30.
I must say it was absolutly amazing. There were about 4 nests on that stretch of road. So were looking into the possibility of getting a nesting site there off the road because the turtles obviously nest there.

Anyways back to Sundrop, The vet had me weigh her here and said we can still pick up the panacure tonight after work but we would't be able to get another appointment til monday. So to give her the panacure and see how it goes and keep in contact.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the chances are that I'll have to re-treat Sundrop with the Baytril and Metronaidazole after her second dose of Panacure in 2 weeks?

Due to the fact that the metronidazole was administered recently, most likely no. I would not administer Baytril that's for sure unless completely necessary.

I hoping she won't have to go through it again. She had a decent looking formed poo the other day but since she regurgitated her cricket she's been on the Oxbow again until her second dose of Panacure.

She had a bad shed the day before yesterday but now she seems to be alright. She's been having solid stools the last two days.

I don't show too much emotion, but deep inside I feel like :yahoo: It's been a bumpy road, but I have faith they will continue to improve.

It's taken me so long to get back here I keep getting sidetracked.

Sundrop isn't gaining any weight yet. She may still be losing it, I've lost my notes I had on her. She's around 20/21 grams right now. She still refuses to eat crickets but she'll eat silkworms. We're having trouble finding small enough ones for her. Our pet store is only stocking the large ones. I'm still quite worried about her. Cherish is up to 30 grams now so I figured Sundrop would bounce back soon aswell but nothing yet. I think our vet is still on Maturnity leave... I'm going to give them a call as soon as I can get 5 mins at home to do it.

She seems to be quite red around her vent area. Is it possible that the infection came back? I'm wondering if she should be treated with the metronaidazole again. She's just not bouncing back form it. She doesn't want to eat tonight either.

Samantha, my aunt called and told me to sign in to pass you a message. I was at her home all night and this morning the browser started acting up. When she types in geckosunlimited the browser does not connect. Says Safari can't connect to server. She does not know what is causing it. Anyway she said to tell you that pinworms can cause rectal irritation so it's possible the load was so high that she needs the medication in (sorry I can't remember the word she said) but I know she meant that instead of once a week it has to be given like a few days straight instead. I hope it works next time.:(
