Lesson learned

Tokay geckos can/will use tools, ie a piece of pvc pipe as a megaphone in the middle of the night...

I just gave Galactus some new pvc pipe vertical hides over the weekend. Last night, he stuck his head in the top and called, quite loudly might I add. The combination of his naturally loud call and the amplification from the pvc hide was rediculous.

I'd love to get more tokays. Unfortunately, that can't really happen until I move to NC in a few years. We're pretty much out of space, and I'm not willing to sacrifice the enclosure size for the sake of having a large collection. All of my animals get nice big enclosures with lots of hides.

Avalanche and Black Frost do that too and it back fired against Vapor because he had just learned how to open his tank, but decided to hide in the extra tubes leaning against the shelves and call for his mate, Cirrus, giving himself away to be caught.

Just a follow up: the troll-kay was at it again. He's getting pretty good at calling just before my alarm clock goes off.

I get boys doing it at around 4am and then 8-9pm. I've got around 10 breeding males going at this point with their male offspring hitting sexual maturity as well. So I get the combination of the big boys bellowing at all hours and the young boys trying to make cute little noises. It's funny. And the males will and do compete for loudness. I don't even wake up unless the toks are really going off in the wee hours of the morning anymore. I love that sound.
