There have been recent studies that geckos do indeed see in the red spectrum. So my opinion on using red lights at night is to only turn them on for viewing the animal. I wouldn't leave it on all night or it may well cause stress as well as possible damage to vision.

I use a red infared heat bulb to keep heat up in my enclosure as well as for nighttime viewing. I sometimes leave the bulb on during the day for heat, but rarely do I leave it on all night.

All heating devices (including bulbs) should be placed on a thermostat
