Anyone use ABG as a substrate?

ABG.. It's called that cause it is created by the Atlanta botanical garden. Contains tree fern, peat, charcoal, and some other ingredients I'm forgetting.

ABG is probably the best mix you can use in a planted viv, it's light , airy and will promote excellent micro fauna production which in turn will help ensure that animal waste is recycled efficiently. I would recommend this for all humid environments

To those that use it with their uroplatus and make it themselves. What do you put in it? Just the "default" ingredients or do you substitute?

I use it, and use the default ingredients. I think it definitely contributes to the ridiculous Ficus growth I get.

Im substituting. I dont wanna use charcoal so I will prob leave that out but will include the peat. Will sub the tree fern out too and use something like reptibark.

Hmm, charcoal helps to keep substrate from getting sour, but it might be more effective in a wetter environment than is found in a gecko terrarium.

I used to make it. I got peat moss, fine charcoal and orchid bark from local nurseries. Sphagnum I bought from Lowes. I got milled tree fern at festivals at a local garden (Kanapaha Gardens). Now I just buy it premixed. I find that at the quantities I need now it's actually cheaper to buy premixed.
