vertical addition to 55 gal tank

hey everyone!

I was thinking about going to lowes or home depot and getting some plexi to add to the top of my 55 gal live terrarium I have made up. I was thinking I would make a box of plexiglass that would extend the height of the tank about 1.5-2 ft taller. I wil be housing cresteds in there and I know how they love to climb!!! I would make it so the front glass was on hinges to open it since the 55 gal is so deep already, I would almost have to climb down in there to grab something off the bottom floor if I didnt add the front door  I have two screen tops there that I made my self but would like to make it one one big box on top! I would have two UVB lamps(one on each side of tank) then a heat lamp at one side, as well as the heat pad I use to help with humidity that heats up the ecoearth that is moist(idk if that was ever thought of before but my friend at a pet shop suggested that). I think the geckos would love it. It would make it a 75 gal tank at the end I suppose. Maybe if it would end up too big for two cresties(now that i think about it) I could put a seperater in the middle and throw(not literally :coverlaugh:)my cresties on one side and my gold dust day gecko on the other side! I think I may do that  suggestions on what type of silicon to use to hold the plexi corners together? :scratchhead: and I will be riveting the hinges on :cheer: Any advice, suggestions, tips, expertise, and other threads will all be appreciated. Thank you for your help in advance!

P.S. I couldnt find any other threads like this but i know Im not the only one that has had this idea before, links to other threads that did this would be great! :yahoo:

I've never done this, but I've seen other posts on here with people that have. So I know there's some threads out there on doing a build like you're talking about. Personally, I'd just flip the 55 gallon tank vertical. Much easier, takes up a much smaller foot print in the room, and provides a much larger vertical space (albeit a much smaller amount of horizontal space).
