Leopard Gecko: Getting a new gecko

About a year ago I lost my first leopard gecko, Gizmo, to an infection that spread through his bloodstream. It was a long and hard fight for both of us. But now I think it may be time to start looking into getting another gecko. I really miss having a little friend around. I guess im just worried that it won't work out again. I can't say I was a leo expert when I first got him. Sure, I learned a lot on our journey, and I know a lot more about geckos than I ever thought I would. But im just worried about the correct care being given and making sure everything is right this time.

I did give calcium and vitamin powder, but can someone please explain the exact schedule and kind I need?

How do you guys clean the cage with tile substrate? How often?

What do you guys do for heating a 20 gal. long tank? I had a small heating pad and a red light.

Thanks a lot :)

Hi,

Have you read the caresheet? It is very detailed and provides you with everything you need to know.:)

I actually found this like 10 minutes after I posted this. Im interested in the custom built clay and foam rocky backgrounds. I feel like it would be a cool project. My question is, how do you clean these? and what substrate do you people use with these?

Hey ~

Welcome back to the world of leos :). I recall your long struggles with Gizmo. Hopefully things will go much better this time around. The Leo Guidelines have been updated many times since Gizmo passed away. They are much better now.

Place several layers of paper towels right in the arrea your leo chooses for a poop spot. That will facilitate cleaning.

For a 20 gallon LONG tank you will need an UTH which occupies 1/3 of the length and as close to the width as possible. Then get a 10" dome to house lighting as recommended by the care sheet. A thermostat is highly recommended. Links to 5 thermostats are contained in the care guidelines.
