I was curious what species / types of plants you all use in your williamsi terrariums? I was thinking of getting Dracaena deremensis for a pair that is coming in soon. Suggestions? Thanks!

I tend to shy away from the more common houseplants when planting gecko tanks, as quite many of them being sold are known to be poisonous. Dracaena is one genus which comes up quite often as a known poisonous plant.

Safe plants (to name a few) would include;

Sansevieria - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bromeliaceae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dischidia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Peperomia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ficus pumila - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anthurium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Philodendron scandens

Poisonous plants are only a problem if the gecko decides to eat them, and philodendrons are poisonous.

Or eat the crickets that ate the plant a few moments earlier, or licks up the sap the poisonous plant leaks. Philo Scandens, is not harmful, other Philos on the other hand can be harmful yes.

I use Hibiscus.:biggrin:

And my williamsi handfeed, lol. Guess i don't have the risk of feeders consuming a poisonous plant , then eaten by one of my williamsi.

I've never noticed any feeders consuming a plant, though it certainly sounds possible. Have you guys ever had it happen or are we just talking precautions here?

Has anyone used Chamaedorea elegans (Parlour Palm) in terrariums? I have read that it is safe and non-tonic on a number of websites.

I have some C. metallica palm seedlings in my williamsi enclosure. Great decore, my williamsi don't use it in any way.

I was intending to use if more for a cryptic back ground / add something to make them feel a bit more secure. Not really intending for them to use it directly.
