Hi all together

I think now is the perfect time for a little summary.

If you had asked me a year ago about my expectations for the next season, I would never had thought about such a successful year.

My results in short:

Phelsuma andamanense: 3.7.2
Phelsuma berghofi: 0.1
Phelsuma borbonica agalegae: 1.0.1
Phelsuma borbonica borbonica: 2.1
Phelsuma borbonica mater: 0.2
Phelsuma breviceps: 1.0.2
Phelsuma flavigularis: 1.5.9
Phelsuma inexpectata: 1.4
Phelsuma malamakibo: 4.3
Phelsuma parkeri: 1.1
Phelsuma pronki: 1.3.2
Phelsuma serraticauda: 0.2

Total 60 hatchlings!

I have not breed many borbonica this year, since it is quite hard to sell them and especially to find a good place for them. So I let the most eggs in the vivariums and...yes, catched only a few hatchlings...

What's about your season?

I wish you all a happy new year!

All the best
Markus

2012 was a good year,80% of the eggs hatched, got 7 juvi's,6 turned out to be female the 7th was born in the enclosure of the mother (cannot sex it yet).
He is ready for the next season, just woke up after a 4 weeks sort of wintersleep, haven't seen him in that periode (it seems to be normal he is doing that every year!)
For 2013 I'll incubate the eggs (hopefully I'll get some) at 30C day and 25C night.

I picked up my first known pair of phelsuma this year and immediately had some success. The lineata laid a total of 7 eggs in 4 clutches and I had a 100% hatch rate when incubated under an incandescent bulb. The last clutch was a small single egg and the hatchling did not survive, but the other 6 are very healthy and going strong.

Hi

He looks good Louis! Hope you will be successful again this year.
The three females have already started to get some nice color. ;)

If you have a look at the neck of my P. breviceps female, it seems as if there are already awakening the first feelings of spring!

By the way, nice to see that P. lineata are still bred! ;)

Kind regards
Markus

I hatched out a small quantity of P.b.mater,guimbeaui and inexpectata.Unfortunately in Britain there is little interest in these species so I dont intensively breed them.Just a few for maintaining my collection and a few swaps for Hamm :(

I was able to get out about 20 P guimbeaui this year and from what I have heard almost half are males. I still have my last 5 from the season so their demand seems a bit off as well.
My pair of P cepediana are both approx 2 years old (male a little younger, female a little older) and hope I get the same production from them this season, only time will tell but both look really amazing right now.

Weird season. Some stuff bred. Others did not. Then I got good eggs out of a pair AFTER I cooled the room all the way for winter break.

P. laticauda 8 or 9(have sold a couple but not sure if they were '11 or '12's

P. pasteuri 2

P. robertmertensi(got the pair in August) 2 eggs in november

P. abbotti chekei 12

P. sundbergi ladiguensis 1(plus 2 eggs cooking)

This coming season I should hopefully produce:
P. borbonica mater
P. robertmertensi
P. pasteuri
P. v-nigra comoraegrandensis
P. abbotti chekei

Looks like the season is starting early for me, we have been unseasonably warm, found my first guimbeaui clutch of '13 this weekend. Now if those cepediana will follow suit it will be a good year.

Hi,

my results in Phelsumas:

5,2 P. ornata form 2 breeding pairs.
I have had some more clutches (6 of each female), but a lot of them were glued on places which were too hot. For this season I reduced my stock to only one pair remaining because it is hard to find buyers for the cb and I decided to raise them up seperately because these juveniles develop much better.

@Markus, it is sad to see that you have only produced such a smal number of borbonicas, especially since you are the only breeder I know with such a big stock of different borbonica localitys and most of these forms have not been established (if they will ever?) yet.

Kind regards,
Jan

Agreed Adam, what a problem to have, though it does seem Borbonica have slowed somewhat over here based on ads and a couple of PM's I have recieved. The Ornatus however.....cheez, all surplus could come here!!!

Hi

I know it is not advantageous not to breed all the borbonica localities. And you have to know that I feel really sad about. Even since there not many individuals out there in captivity. But I have not the opportunity to keep all the hatchlings, until I have found a good place for them. Nowadays it takes to much time for this.

The only long term objective I have is to save my own stock. So I just breed a limited number of selected local forms of my borbonica. Especially of the rarer, which are not yet established and probably never will.

Additionally I have needed a lot of small terrarium for the hatchlings of flavigularis last year, which are even more rare and challenging in breeding than a lot of the borbonica localities.

The good news for you American is, that we are working on a shipment to the states. The future will tell us whether it will work or not. ;)

All the best
Markus

Markus, is someone from the states working on the shipment or is someone over near you working on that? First I've heard about something real happening! I'd love to know who is taking on this mammoth task!
