Thank you so much! and no, definitely did not start with a 10 gallon! I wish I knew how big it was, ill measure it soon but its at least 20 inches long I think. The guy at the reptile store said it was good for right now, since he is still a small guy. I have only had him for a day but he ate his first meal tonight with me! seems extremely into the crickets, and not at all into the worms, which I think is good according to the care sheet! Do i just pour the calcium powder on the crickets before I give them to my gecko? Because I have a little bottle top with calcium in it for him to use. but he is definitely a hunter and really likes coming up to me now! he comes up to the glass whenever im near and stands up ha but its great so far! thank you for the care sheet and the help!
You are very welcome for both.
Unfortunately many people DO start out with the 10 and the leo starter kit. Glad that did not include you.
It is easiest to keep the recommended thermal gradient in a 30 inch tank. The 20 gallon LONG measures: 30 x 12.5 x 12.5 inches. Otherwise you will need to upgrade in a year when he grows. Cheaper in the long run to get the larger tank now. Often pet stores allow the pet owner to return unsatisfactory purchases.
Pure calcium carbonate goes in the tank 24/7.
Calcium with D3 and
Zoo Med's Reptivite with D3 are lightly dusted onto the prey 2x per week. You can alternate between those 2 or just do the Reptivite with D3.
I place a small amount of the powder in a 32 ounce deli cup, add the crickets, and swirl gently. I use a tablespoon-size measuring spoon to remove the dusted crickets from the deli cup.
