HI! My name is Michael, I joined this site because my wife and I are getting our 4 year old son his fist gecko. We have the basics down but are open to suggestions.

Hello and welcome this is an awsome site with LOTS of information!! What kind of gecko is it? Did your son express intrest in wanting a gecko? They are kinda fragile, puppies on the other hand can take quite a beating lol.

What type gecko are you getting?

leopard gecko. (will post pics when we get em) we alreday have a dog, and YES my son was at the pet store and we were looking and he just fell in love with them so when we asked to see one, i figured he wouldn't want to hold it and that would be the end of it but he held it and loved it. After my wife and i talked it over we have decided we would get him one so the on the first sat in feb we are going to pick em up !

Are you getting one from the pet store or a breeder? I HIGHLY recommend getting one from a knowledgeable breeder if possible. The ones from pet stores tend to come with more problems, but it does depend on the individual store. Breeders are also a good source of information (along with this forum!)

Make sure you and your wife are prepared to do all the care. We operate a reptile rescue and you'd be amazed how many reptiles we get in where they got the animal for their child and then were surprised when the kid couldn't/didn't want to do all the care for it. Your son can certainly help. I know my 5 year old does and loves it!

I will look into a breeder, and we are fully aware we will be doing all the care and maintenance for our new gecko.lol
