I read a thread like this in the crestie forum. I thought we needed one here. So I'll share my story.
Ive been hospitalized and restricted to locked mental units twice in the past year. Not the best thing let me tell you. They're calming and boring. Anyway...up until a couple months ago I had a diagnosis of depression with psychosis. I cried, I ragged, I cut, had suicidal fits. Basicly every thing not physically abusive.
Rcently my diagnosis was switched to bipolar disorder NOS( not otherwise specified). Basicly I have way more then enough signs of bipolar but don't fit into bipolar depression or bipolar mania. I'm more likely to have episodes with symptoms of both.
I got Phoenix as a Christmas gift and quite enjoy her. But I've noticed something. Even when frustrated or ready to yell talking to Phoenix is calming as well as interesting. Eventually I clam enough to hold her and that as well as having working meds helps me cope. I love my little Leo. I'm sure I'm not the only one to feel this no matter the animal. I'm considering a crestie or panther gecko or even a Betta fish to help me even more.
