Hi,

I have got an 8 month old crested gecko. I have had him since last Monday so a week today.

The problem is he has eaten anything, also when I try to handle him he makes and chirping sound and runs around the tank and hides.

Any advice guys?

First I would say that it takes a while for reptiles to settle in to a new environment. It's not uncommon for geckos to take a few weeks to start eating. So if it's only been a week, I wouldn't be too terribly concerned.

The next thing I would say is that it sounds like the enclosure is too big for him...right now. He will eventually grow into it, it sounds like a nice size for an adult. I would recommend finding a smaller enclosure to house him in until he's full grown. I like to use plastic bins with holes cut in them for ventilation. Or maybe you can find a smaller glass aquarium for now. I don't move mine into adult enclosures until they are at least a year, year and a half old and at least 15-20 grams.

Do you have a gram scale? Weighing your gecko is the best way to determine that he's eating and growing. I'd invest in one if you don't have one, they are fairly inexpensive. At his size, I'd offer fresh cgd every other day for a while, leaving it in the second night. Some geckos like their cgd a day old or so.

I do exactly that with the cgd. I have a faunaruim that he came in, do you think I should put him back in that? Also how do I keep his temps up in it?

I don't know what a faunarium is. It's hard for me to tell you what to keep him in because I don't know his size. Can you take a picture of the gecko and the enclosures and post them?

Cresteds are awesome because they do well at room temperature. 68-74 is ideal, but they can handle down to 64-65. Is your house colder than that? If it's in the range, then don't worry about raising the temps.

A faunaruim is like a small exo Terra plastic tank. It's what he was living in when I got him. I think maybe he needs to go back in it for a few months. What's the best way to catch him without scaring him?
