Something happened today that has not happened in a long time. After setting out the meal worms for my gecko, he attacked his own reflection in the vanity mirror I have on my dresser that his tank is on. I noticed him doing this when I was hearing a thud noise coming from his tank. At first I thought it was him hitting his food dish against the side of his tank because he can be a vicious eater sometimes. But when I heard the noise another time. I looked over at his tank and noticed he was wagging his tail slowly. When I got up to look closer, I saw him looking at his reflection is the mirror and realized he though his reflection was another leopard gecko and was headbutting the side of the tank. Now his tank has been set up the way it is now since the day I first got him almost 2 years ago and the last time he did these was when I first got him. I simple covered the part of the mirror where he could see is reflection and it never happened again. But I moved about a month ago and during the move the paper got taken off the mirror. Even though I have lived at the new place for almost a month without paper covering the mirror. He never attacked his reflection until tonight. What could of caused him to suddenly begin attacking his reflection again? Did he really go a whole month without noticing him own reflection or is it because it's getting close to the leopard geckos mating season, that he is becoming more territorial and aggressive. Has anybody else ever have their own leo attack their reflection in a mirror or the reflection sometimes caused by glass tanks? And for those who are wondering, Yes I covered the part of the mirror he can see with 2 sheets of computer paper. So there is no way he can see his reflection in the mirror.

I have one female who attacked at her reflection on the glass tank she is in :coverlaugh:

In your case it could be possible that he didn´t see himself before, is it a male?

Yes, my leopard gecko is a male. I got him as a baby from a petsmart almost 2 years ago. It will be 2 years I have had him in July.

Males tend to be a bit more territorial than females, hehehe good that you covered the mirror, I bet it stressed him out
