Housing

My vivarium is 48 inches tall and 24 wide is this ok? Would this safely house 2 females? I use CGD and mushed banana as food, my old gecko used to like to "swim" in the water bowl LOL it's shallow enough that they won't drown if they do but is that ok? How many fake plants should I keep if any? I have one of those log looking "houses" that my other one used to love to hide in and there is terrarium moss in there along with a vine from one corner of the cage to the other with plenty of swirls and it finishes as resting against the hide (the bottom "corner"). They wouldn't um :fight: fight over anything would they?

can you show a picture? a hide in the bottom of the cage is not ideal for cresties.

as for the other questions, a search of this subforum will yield all sorts of good answers for you.

Gecko cage 1.jpg Hoping that is the cage if it's not I need to change the name of the file LOL The only reasons the hide is in there is because1. my old crestie used to LOVE it and my mom picked it out being nice :)

oh, I see. I hadn't connected your name with your other posts yet; sorry!

well, crestie's are arboreal. a hide on the bottom will be used if there isn't a good vertical place to hide, but is not preferred and will stress your gecko. especially in a cage that big, you'll want lots of vertical coverage. one vine branching across is not even close to enough for your gecko(s) to feel safe.

I plan on getting:

More plants (fake (not good at housing live plants LOL) )
Different Bedding (reptile carpet *not taking safety chances*)
Food (obviously LOL)

Is there enough space?
Do you think this would be safe?
Is it safe for them to crawl in their water bowl?
LOL that's alright :) Are you saying plants hanging down? How do I do that?! Are there plants FOR hanging down?

Definitely enough space, Tara. Some people consider 12x12x18 the minimum for one adult, but it's more generally accepted that 18x18x18 is good for a single, and 24x24x48 is acceptable for a pair. The key is plenty of coverage- don't be shy! I was a little worried I smothered my crestie's viv, as they do enjoy space to jump. But cover is important, they need to feel safe. I'd suggest maybe another twisty vine, try entwining it around itself to make a wreath and attach one to the top for a circular, heightened, horizontal resting space.

As for hanging plants, just get the fake ones with the suction cups and attach the suction cups at the desired height. The ground isn't very important if your gecko has good mental health. I use eco earth for substrate for aesthetics and to hold humidity, but I've never seen my gecko on the ground (except the first day I put him in, where he went across the ground, then right up into the foliage). Keep their arboreal nature in mind when placing their feeding dishes as well. I place my crestie's water bottle cap of CGD on the bottom of the piece of grapewood I have resting vertically, in a sort of tree-trunk fashion with the aforementioned vine wreath positioned above it. From there, I entwined a Fluker's Repti-Vine around it to make it similar to a shrub.
