WTF babies?!?!?!?!

so earlier this year i had my pair of Lineatus lay a nice pair of eggs which i incubated inside the cage... learned my lesson from before when i incubated the pair incorrectly and they died within 30 days of hatching. first clutch i incubated partially in the room then when incubator was free tossed them in there (bad idea) and brought them to term.

second clutch i incubated inside the cage and they hatched out near 2x the size and looked ALOT better overall. total incubation time was around 140 days. both are still alive and kicking doing great so far. 2 beautiful females:

have been a little frustrated with my Fimbriatus, Phantasticus, Ebenaui and Sikorae as they have all laid dud eggs and even recently the Lineatus has laid a couple duds :(

today i go wandering through the leaf tail room and stumble on this:

well i'll be a monkeys uncle there is a frickin' Fimbriatus baby the lizard stork dropped off. no other way to explain it because i have been through that tank and haven't found any viable eggs to date. somehow one got past me for 4+ months!

so a little while ago (midnight-ish my time PST) i'm still freaked out that a baby just "appeared" in the tank and was trying to see if there might be another baby hiding in there somewhere.... looked for eggs, ex-egg,etc to no avail earlier. so looking at the enclosure starting at the bottom, scouring the "tree" and limbs in the cage for a small, obscure, possibly not there but could be right in front of me type of guy, i thought... "no way i could find a baby if it was in there. first one was pure luck in the first place".

got to the top of the cage and right at the top there it is.... sunnuva... WTF?!?!?!?

so that's been my evening... quite freaked out yet utterly excited i have 2 new Fimbriatus babies!!!!!

hope you all enjoy

That's great! Maybe you need to stop checking for eggs. ;D

no kidding. the floor of the enclosure is pretty open and clear so not too many places to hide eggs. but if they are laying and hatching in situ then i'll let them do their thing.

in the lineatus cage i found the eggs and incubated them in perilite inside the cage and it took forever for them to hatch but when they did they were super healthy.

hoping that one of these days i can get more species to breed and start producing. has takes a couple years to get here and much more difficult than i anticipated.

thanks guys for the congrats. will take pics again in a few days to show their progress. was slightly worried since the tails looked curled but one has since unfurled the tail which looks great and the other (second i found) is looking better.

HA, that's awesome. I keep waiting on it to happen, all the while hoping it doesn't. I'd be doing some serious digging if I were you, to see if there were any more eggs.

Congratulations!!!!

the fimbriatus babies are looking good so far. the lineatus i don't worry as much about as i know they are MUCH healthier than the first pair that hatched out.

did do a little digging in the fimbriatus cage and located the 2 hatched egg shells and 3 other eggs which i placed in a incubation cup inside the cage same as what i did with the lineatus. crossing my fingers now that they hatch out.
