Unknown phelsuma

So I was at the NY Reptile Expo today and found two Phelsuma in a deli cup. The deli cup was marked "Dwarf Yellow-head Geckos $15 a pair"! Of course I grabbed them. Now the fun, trying to figure out the species. Of course they are in hiding after their rough day but I will get a photo once they are out and about. They are juveniles and from what I've seen they are green and covered with red spots, no dark line along the side. I don't think they are islands.

I was there too! Those were at a vendor up on the stage, right? If yes, then I think they're Lygodactylus sp. They had 2-3 species, all nice looking, and yours might be L. luteopicturatus, L. kimhowelli, or L. picturatus. They also have some P. grandis, which were the only Phelsuma species I saw at the show. Disappointing! Usually there's more.

I know the exact kimhowelli you are talking about because I got 4 of them. The phelsuma came from the dealer on the left side of the main floor. The same guy that has all those wild-caught natives. Now that they are out and about it appears, they are P. dubia. Pretty good deal for $7.50 each. They also had a few lined's but they did not look very good. I got three very nice grandis from Leaping Leachies.

Nice! That's an excellent description of the vendor - I know exactly which you're talking about. I did look there because they usually have some WC Phelsuma, but it was crazy crowded and I guess I didn't look carefully. Pretty weird/misleading that they call P. dubia "Dwarf Yellow-head Geckos", but it's a good find nonetheless. Also cool that you picked up those kimhowelli - they looked great!

And here they are. The darker photo shows their true colors.

From looking on my phone, that is Phelsuma dubia. Nice acquisition. I hope you have a pair! Did he have any more?

He only had those two or I would have bought him out. I'm very pleased that they are P. Dubia as they seem to be harder and harder to come across. I'm sure I'm not lucky enough for them to be a pair!
