hey GU,

I just checked on my p. grandis and she's got something weird on her left side. there are these white spots on her side that don't really look like stuck shed, and i can't find any reference on any forums as to what this might be. I saw she had apparently pooped some opaque-ish white stuff on the bamboo stalk across the top of her enclosure, and she may have just got it on her, but i wanted to ask if anybody knew if this was an infection.

i'll link a couple pictures below where you can see the white spot on her forelimb most clearly. there's more down her side but the camera doesn't show it that well.

1. basking spot: 90
2. ambient: 80
3. night: 74
4. how and when you are measuring: one probe, shown in the picture

Diet:
1. how often you feed: every other day
2. what you feed: mainly crickets, occasional baby food and phoenix worms
3. what supplements, how often, and how administered (including gutloading schedule): crickets are dusted with a herptivite and reptical (no d3) mix 1/2 to 2/3 of the time

substrate used: Coco fiber

lighting used:
5.0 UVA/UVB light, 50 watt basking lamp

humidity range: 40-60%

how often misted: 2-3 times per day or whenever humidity drops below 40%, because it's screen i have to mist a lot

how old is the gecko:
4 years

what gender: female

how many geckos also in the enclosure, and what gender:
just her

enclosure size: 18" x 18" x 36" high

symptoms (please add as much detail as possible): white spots along her right side. nothing on her left side. nothing else is apparently wrong with her. she just had some crickets as well.

it's hard to tell from the picture, but it doesn't look like injury? her scales don't look damaged, as far as I can tell, although that's not 100%.

it kind of looked like she's scratched a bit along the screen. is she acting normally?

It's more like a waxy gunk, not like a scratch. It's sort of raised. She's acting and looking normally except for this stuff on her right side.

Here, I edited the picture to make it more visible and circled the gunk. Do you really think that this could be a scratch from the screen on the cage? Have you seen that happen? Because I just set this cage up about a week ago, before this her life was spent entirely in glass.

Yes it could possibly be from the new screen. Could be dry skin. Could possibly be poop or repashy on her. Since you just changed her entire world give it a week or so and lets see what happens. I honestly would put her back in a glass enclosure. That'll help your low humidity issue. Also, analog gauges tend to fail. I am guessing you are using an analog gauge for reading humidity. I would trash it and get a digital gauge.

Done.

I had success keeping her in a screen cage in the past, but I moved recently to a much drier place and didn't think that keeping up the humidity would be downright impossible, which it was. I kept everything moist at all times, put saran wrap around the sides, but still it just wouldn't keep. I guess I'll have to save that new screen cage for some future reptile.

I've heard that about analog gauges. I already had one do that to me. I'll get a digital one soon enough.
